Billy Hughes Jr, 47, white was executed via lethal injection. Hughe Jr, was convicted of having killed a white, 25 year old policeman, Mark Frederick, after the latter had stopped him at a check point on 4th April, 1976. He was the fifth person to be executed in the State during the year, No 204 since the State resumed executions in 1974. He was the 10th to be executed in the U.S. during the year and No 608 since the death penalty was re-introduced in 1976.
