Chang Chi-hsien, a Taiwanese man convicted of drug trafficking, was executed in the southern Chinese city of Xiamen, the Beijing Times newspaper said. The report came on the United Nations' International Anti-Drug Day, which China typically marks by carrying out a surge of drug related executions. Chang was arrested in July 2002 in the city of Zhuhai, which borders the former Portuguese colony of Macau, the paper said. It said he was arrested during a drug deal involving 20 kilograms of the amphetamine known as "ice".
