the Yulin City Intermediate People's Court, China, sentenced Chen Lizhen, Feng Wenlong, Yang Libin, Liu Zhixiong, Wen Haixia and Ruan Yubin to death for trafficking 65 kg of heroin. Jie Haiying was given a suspended death sentence for his role in the case. Twelve other defendants were sentenced to death with reprieve, given life imprisonment or sentenced from two to 15 years imprisonment. It was alleged that from May to November 2003, Chen and her husband, Feng, bought 31.5 kg of heroin from Jie, Yang, and Liu. In late 2003, Feng, Chen and others bought 33.83 kg of heroin from Jie, Yang and Liu. Ruan, on the other hand, was arrested on 30 September 2003 for selling 175.9 g of heroin, but escaped from prison. He was later re-apprehended.
