CHINA. GUANGZHOU MAN SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR FRAUD

the Guangzhou Intermediate Court sentenced Wang Risheng to death with a two-year reprieve for fraud. The court said Wang was the mastermind behind a scam in which more than 2,000 people were swindled out of 110 million yuan (US$12.4 million).

Another 13 defendants were jailed for terms ranging from two years to 12 years.
The court said Wang and his accomplices called people telling them they had won lotteries or claiming they were carrying out a social survey and then luring them to visit the Websites of two "manufacturing bases".
Some people invested all their savings in Wang's fake investment projects after visiting the sites.
