Circuit Judge Williams Parsons agreed sentenced former death row inmate Jerry Rogers to life in prison for the murder of David Smith in January 1982.
He was sent to death row in 1984, but in February 2001 the Florida Supreme Court overturned Rogers' death sentence and ordered a new trial.
The state's key witness against Rogers was a co-defendant who got a shorter prison sentence in return for his testimony. The state's high court ruled that the state withheld important evidence about another suspect that would have helped Rogers.
Rogers was convicted again of 1st-degree murder in June. The jury recommended a life sentence and Judge Parsons agreed.
