Crime is by no means a threat to South Africa, said Justice and Constitutional Development minister Penuell Maduna in Pretoria while announcing the forthcoming Global Judges Symposium on Sustainable Development to be held in Johannesburg on August 18.
'We do have crime in the country just like in any other country in the world but South Africa is not the world capital of crime,' said minister Maduna.
Responding to a question on the possibility of bringing back the death penalty, he said the government would not ever consider it.
'The death penalty is not a solution to crime, we are paying more attention to the issue and we are winning the battle, our jails are full and not by innocent people, but by criminals,' he said.
