The Guangzhou Intermediate People's Court, in Guangdong Province, tried 24 people for participating in criminal syndicates, intentional assault, blackmail, kidnapping and extortion. The court sentenced Zhou Guanglong, alleged head of the gang, and two alleged principal gangsters, Liu Shuzhi and Zou Lijie to death. According to newspaper reports, the gang used violence to "dominate" cargo consignment markets in railway stations and collected "protection" fees from drivers and cargo owners.
