The images, inspired by Cuban dissidents, have already been on show in Florence and Rome.
Hands Off Cain and the Italian Helsinki Committee are promoting the exhibition to call attention to the repression of the Castro regime, in particular the wave of arrests in early 2003 that led to the jailing of 75 civil liberties activists under harsh detention conditions.
“Thought is forbidden” will be open to the public at the Basic Village in Corso Regio Parco 39 as from Friday 12 November at 18.00CET. It will be inaugurated by Marco Boglione, BasicNet President, Turin Mayor Sergio Chiamparino, author Oliviero Toscani, HOC Secretary General Sergio D’Elia and Piedmont Regional Councilor from the Lista Bonino Bruno Mellano.
A new Hands Off Cain TV ad against the death penalty - created by Toscani and showing on Italian public broadcasting channels (Rai) as from November 9 - will be presented at the inauguration. Carlo Romeo, director of the Rai social affairs section and Andrea Miro, co-author of the soundtrack of the TV ad will be present for the launch.
The exhibition will be on in Turin from November 12 – 19 between 10.00 – 17.30 CET (Sundays closed).
“Thought is forbidden” will then move on to the Czech Republic, Spain, France, Sweden, the Netherlands and the United States.
