Disgraced former Philippine President Joseph Estrada made a late appearance on the first day of his trial on the charge of economic plunder after saying he would not show up.Estrada entered the court, about one hour after the scheduled start. He had said earlier he would not attend the trial, claiming it was his right. The three judges of the Sandiganbayan anti-graft court had however ordered police to produce the former president.Estrada, who was ousted from office in January by a "people power" revolt, faces the death penalty or life in prison if he is convicted.
