District Attorney Paul Connick agreed that Ryan Matthews should get a new trial and scheduled a court hearing to sign the papers. New tests confirmed that DNA in a sky mask wasn't Matthews', Connick said in a news release. Matthews has been on death row since 1999, when he was convicted of killing Tommy Vanhoose, a grocer, 2 years earlier. Matthews' attorneys say that several of the 7 DNA samples on the gunman's mask, shirt and glove match the DNA of Rondell Love, who is serving a 20-year sentence for manslaughter of Chandra Conley, 20.
