Eleven members of a mafia-style gang were sentenced to death by a court in northwest China for crimes ranging from murder to robbery and gambling. Seven of the 60-member gang were sentenced to death without reprieve at the Lanzhou Intermediate People's Court in Gansu province.
Four others received death with a two-year reprieve, a punishment which in China is usually tantamount to life in jail.
After reviewing the 120 counts, the judge meted out a series of jail terms, with only one suspect escaping punishment.
