Two employees of the state-owned China Construction Bank were sentenced to death by the Intermediate People's Court in Xi'an after being found guilty of embezzling 412 million yuan, the China Daily said. Zhou Limin, head of a local branch of the bank, and Liu Yibing, one of his staff, were found guilty of attracting savings from firms and individuals totalling 412 million yuan between early 1996 and October 2000 by offering high interest rates, it said. It was alleged that they did not register the deposits but kept the money for their own use instead.
