five young men were sentenced to death in Chittagong, Bangladesh, and eight others given life imprisonment for the murder of three siblings at Kazipara in Hathazari. Kazi Mobarak Hossain, district JCD joint-secretary, was handed down the death penalty in a crowded court. His associates Mohammad Osman, Mainuddin alias Betta, Imamuddin alias Mujib and Mohammad Lokman were sentenced to death in absentia. The prosecution said the convicts went on May 26, 2003 to the house of three brothers at Kazipara in order to resolve a land dispute. At one stage they shot down Abul Kashem. As his two brothers tried to resist the gunmen they were also shot dead.
