Gaya additional district and sessions court in Bihar, India, sentenced eight people to death and six to life imprisonment for the mass killing of lower caste Hindus in 1988.
The accused were convicted of gunning down 19 members of the Dalit community, India's lowest caste, in Nonahi-Nagwan village on June 16, 1988 during a dispute over farm wages. Among the victims were two children. According to the Hindustan Times those sentenced to death were: Rajbhallav Yadav, Joddha Mahto, Ram Babu Mahto, Jung Bahadur Singh, Ramashish Yadav, Bipin Sharma, Dinanath Yadav and Jaddu Yadav.
