Huang Mingxi, a 41 year old Chinese restaurant owner, was executed in accordance with a ruling from the Beijing No. 1 Intermediate People's Court on charges of financial fraud. According to the court, Huang obtained 55.4m yuan (6.7m US dollars) by fraud, with the help of two bank clerks. Huang's two accomplices, Shi Hongjun and Jiang Hualing, were sentenced to life imprisonment. Huang came to Beijing more than ten years ago, from his hometown in central China's Hubei Province. He opened a restaurant in Beijing, and in early 1996, met the two bank clerks and started working on plans to make easy money. It was alleged that Huang first persuaded companies to save money in his accomplices' bank, by promising them high interest rates. He then falsified financial documents and drew money out with the help of his accomplices.
