Judge Kempanna Gouder sentenced K D Kempamma, alias Mallika, 44, to death. Posing as a pious lady acquainted with religious rituals, Mallika used to befriend well-to-do women devotees frequenting the temples. She would suggest that rituals be done by her at a temple. She would later mix cyanide in their food and then leave with their valuables.
