a local court in Allahbad, India, awarded the death penalty to a man found guilty for murdering his wife and five-year-old daughter. Additional Sessions Judge Shyam Lal Yadav sentenced Ram Samujh Yadav to death and fined him Rs 7000. Samujh's father Ramnath Yadav, sister Bachna Devi and brother-in-law Doodhnath Yadav, alias Kallu, were acquitted. According to the prosecution, Ram Samujh, a resident of Karnaipur village married Urmila in May 2000. He and his family allegedly harassed Urmila for not bringing an adequate dowry. On September 10, 2006, the couple fought and Samujh strangled his wife and daughter and dumped their bodies into a nearby pond.
