INDIA: SC 'ORDERS' GALLOWS FOR COPS IN FAKE ENCOUNTERS

a bench of the Indian Supreme Court comprising Justice Markandey Katju and Justice Gyan Sudha Misra said that police who kill people in the name of a fake 'encounter' fell within the category of "the rarest of rare'' cases. Policemen found involved in such killings must be given the death sentence and will not be excused on the pretext that they were carrying out the orders, they said.
