"It is serious that the new President of the Palestinian Authority, the man accredited for democratic change in Palestine and for dialogue with Israel, is the one to want to restore capital punishment, a penalty which even Arafat had in the end dismissed,” stated Sergio D’Elia, Secretary of Hands Off Cain. 
“Even more serious is the fact that the western media, the Italian government and the European Union are silent on the issue and don’t seriously question the credibility of Abu Mazen and his willingness to turn over a new leaf.
“We ask Italy and the European Union to immediately intervene requesting the PA President to suspend all executions and to place the human rights of Palestinians at the centre of relations with Abu Mazen’s government, making it a prerogative for Italian and European aid.”
