Italian NGOs protest against human rights violations in Syria
February 19, 2002: Italian human rights associations and MPs will stage a demonstration tomorrow as Syrian president Bashar Assad visits Rome mayor Walter Veltroni.

Hands Off Cain, Italian Radicals and the Transnational Radical Party will join the protest Welcome Assad promoted by Jewish associations against the anti-semitism and the violation of human rights by the Syrian authorities.
The demonstration will be held in Piazzetta San Marco (adjacent to Piazza Venezia) on Wednesday February 20 from 11.30 to 12.30 CET as President Assad visits Mayor Veltroni at the Campidiglio.
The Syrian president is currently on a three-day visit to Rome.
