Joe Elton Nixon, convicted of murdering a woman, will get a new trial 19 years later because he never explicitly agreed with his lawyer's strategy of admitting guilt, the Florida Supreme Court decided today. The justices, in a 5-2 unsigned opinion, ordered a retrial for Nixon, now 41, who was convicted of 1st-degree murder and sentenced to death for the August 1984 burning death of Jeanne Bickner, 38.
