Justice organs in Xinzhou city, Shanxi Province, sentenced Tian Xuewen and Bai Zengyun to death for alleged involvement in a gift parcel explosion case
Justice organs in Xinzhou city, Shanxi Province, sentenced Tian Xuewen and Bai Zengyun to death for alleged involvement in a gift parcel explosion case.
According to the paper, Tian wanted to be transferred to the District Environment Protection Bureau, but his application was rejected.
Tian learned that the bureau director reportedly had a personal conflict with Liu Yuting. In order to oblige the bureau director, Tian allegedly planned to kill Liu, and asked Bai to help him produce a time bomb. They bought a pager, batteries, detonators, and explosives; and made a bomb that was connected to the pager, the paper said.
They put it inside a shoebox and wrapped it as a gift. On 5 March 2001, Bai sent the "gift box" to the guard office of Xinzhou Teachers School addressed to Liu Yuting. Liu was killed when he opened the "gift box", the paper reported.
