Liu Xiaojun was sentenced to death after being convicted by the Intermediate People's Court of Tieling City, in northeast China's Liaoning Province, of leading a 34 member criminal gang. Other members of the group received jail terms of two years and above. The court was told that from 1993 to 2002, the gang amassed large amounts of money via theft, gambling, trading and drug dealing. The gang allegedly got protection through bribery of public officials.
