Mohamed Raffiq Mohamed Aslam, 42, was sentenced to death for murdering a former colleague, Madam Saratha Sangeo, 50. He reportedly killed her with a metal pipe when he went to her flat to borrow money on August 7, 2002. During the trial, the defendant had tried to retract a previously made confession to the crimes, saying he had owned up only because he was 'sick and tired of living', but the judge was not convinced.
