Morocco's King Mohammed pardoned 1,144 people, on the Muslim feast of Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
As Amir al-Mumineen (Commander of the Faithful), the king also commuted the life sentence of two prisoners to limited sentence, MAP said. The agency did not identify any of those pardoned.
MAP did not say whether any political activists were among the pardoned prisoners.
Some 40 prisoners have been sentenced to death in Morocco in recent years, including five Muslim activists of Moroccan and Algerian origins who were involved in criminal acts or arms smuggling, human rights groups said.
