Odell Barnes Jr, 31, black, was executed by lethal injection. He had been convicted of killing Helen Bass, a black woman, during a robbery on 29th November 1989. He was the tenth person to be executed in the State during the year, No 209 since the State resumed executions in 1974. He was the 19th to be executed in the U.S. during the year and No 617 since the death penalty was re-introduced in 1976.
