On December 1, about 70 people had a conversation with two men on death row by phone in the University of Maryland's Nyumburu Cultural Center. The "live from death row" event featured speeches and question and answer sessions with convicted felons Kenneth Collins and Eugene Colvin-El, who are awaiting execution in the Maryland Correctional Adjustment Center in Baltimore. "Our goal is to make people realize the injustices of the justice system and the death penalty," said sophomore Caitlin Carty, a member of the Campaign to End the Death Penalty, the student group that sponsored the two-hour event.
