the Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) appealed to the Government of Pakistan to stop the execution of condemned prisoner Zulfiqar Ali, father of two daughters. In a statement, the AHRC urged the government to come out openly about the issue of the abolition or commutation of the death sentence. The condemned prisoner, Ali, will be hanged in the early hours of October 8, 2008, at the Adiala Jail. He was convicted of murder on April 14, 1998. The AHRC called upon President Asif Ali Zardari to take a stand on this issue and immediately commute Zulfiqar Ali’s death sentence to life imprisonment.
