Qin Zusheng, convicted of attacking tourists in downtown Guilin City, a well-known tourist destination in south China, was executed.The execution, the first of the kind in Guilin, was carried out under a ruling handed down by the Higher People's Court of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, according to local sources.The court verdict noted that on May 3, a four-member gang led by Qin assaulted and robbed local and foreign tourists in Guilin's central square, injuring two of the victims.The four suspects were arrested on May 12. On June 3, the Intermediate People's Court of Guilin city in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, sentenced Qin to death, deprived him of his political rights for life and fined him 5,000 yuan (600 US dollars).The three other suspects were given jail terms ranging from 10 to 12 years. Qin appealed the sentence in the Guangxi Higher People's Court that upheld the initial ruling by the lower people's court and rejected his appeal.
