Quawn Moses Franklin received the death penalty and a life sentence without parole for the Dec. 29, 2001 slaying of Alberta Crate and Jerry Lawley. The life sentence, to be served consecutively after the death sentence, was added to the 6 other life sentences Franklin was already serving. Franklin, 27, appeared before Judge Mark J. Hill in the Lake County Judicial Center. Pamela McCoy, 16, who was Franklin's accomplice in the Lawley shooting, pleaded guilty in a deal last summer and is serving 35 years in prison.
