Rajab Ali, 22, and Abdus Salam, 23, were sentenced to death by hanging for the rape of an eight year old girl which resulted in her death. According to the prosecution, Rajab and Salam, from Sultanpur village in the Bagha region, led their neighbour Salma to a secluded place and raped her on August 22, 1999. After the act they threw her into a sugarcane field in an unconscious state where she was found dead.
