Sangki Ara, a 55 year old policeman, was sentenced to die by lethal injection for selling methamphetamine hydrochloride or "shabu" weighing 26.6563 grams near a school in Toril in 2002. Regional Trial Court (RTC) Judge Adoracion Avisado found Ara guilty of violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 for selling six sachets of "shabu" to a poseur-buyer on December 20, 2002. Avisado also ordered Ara to pay the government R10 million in damages.
