State Minister Mustafa Yilmaz said: "as you know, death sentence was lifted in all member countries to the European Union (EU). If we want to become a full member of the EU, we have to abide by its rules. According to my point of view, it is not correct to hang people. I believe that life imprisonment is the biggest punishment. Those serving life imprisonment in prisons, are deprived of all favours of the world. If we hang a person, he dies in two minutes with a grave difficulty. However, a life prisoner suffers during his whole life. Our government has reached this day by compromise. I believe that it would reach a compromise on death sentence. Anyway, we do not have any alternative except for lifting death sentence."
