Tajik television reported that Tajikistan's Supreme Court had passed sentences on five citizens who had committed "a number of grave crimes," and sentenced to death two of them for the "violent murder of citizen Rahmatullo Rahimov".
It was alleged that Umarbek Pirov, Parviz Hayitov and Shodikhon Tohirov, intending to go to the countryside, agreed with Rahimov that he would provide taxi services for them. After inviting Rahimov to be a guest, "the three brutally killed him and dismembered his body".
The Supreme Court sentenced 21 year old Umarbek Pirov to death under Articles 104, 249, 244, 199, 243 and 359 of Tajikistan's Criminal Code. Parviz Hayitov, charged under Articles 104, 243, 244 and 249 of the Criminal Code, was also sentenced to death. Shodikhon Tohirov, convicted under Article 347 (colluding with the other two), was sentenced to five years in a strict-regime colony.
Two others, who were charged under Article 347, were sentenced to one year's imprisonment for concealing the crime.
