The Tajik newspaper Vecherniy Dushanbe reported that Tajikistan was considering the abolition of the death penalty for women. The proposal was among the 272 amendments and addenda to the Criminal Code submitted to parliament, the paper said. "At present 15 articles of Tajikistan's Criminal Code stipulate the death penalty," the article stated. It was also reported that Senior Tajik Presidential Adviser on Legal Issues Rahmatullo Zoyirov thought that "the Tajik leadership must move towards being more humane in terms of imposing the death penalty. At the same time, the Criminal Code should retain its article stipulating the death penalty for particularly serious crimes."
