Teo Yeow Chuah, a 31 year old man convicted of possessing 55.29g of heroin, claimed he had admitted to possessing and trafficking in the drug because narcotics officers had not told him the offence carried the death penalty. During a five-day trial in October 2003, Teo also claimed that he made his confessions under threat and inducement, saying he had confessed only because Station Inspector Jimmy Ang had threatened to charge his family, girlfriend and friend.
