Thai Ambassador to Indonesia, Dr. Chaiyong Satjipanan, visited two convicts, Namsong Sirilak, 31, and Saelow Praseart, 61, both Thai nationals at the maximum security jail in Medan, Indonesia, who had been sentenced to death for their involvement in the smuggling of 12.19 kg of heroin. "The Thai Ambassador along with some embassy staffers paid a visit to their two condemned compatriots at the jail who are now still waiting for a reply to their request for clemency from the Indonesian President," Director of the Legal Aid Foundation in Medan Irham Buana Nasution said. According to Nasution the Thai ambassador will make diplomatic efforts to prevent the two compatriots from facing the firing squad.
