The Additional Session Judge (Third Court) of Comilla Md Ansar Ali found Parvin Akhter guilty of murdering her step-daughter by strangulation and sentenced her to death. The court also sentenced the victim's father and uncle to five years imprisonment. Parvin Akhter strangled her six-year-old step-daughter Sohagi on the evening of January 31, 1997 when the infant asked for some cooked rice. The body of the girl was then hidden in a nearby ditch.
