The Alabama legislature passed a bill to change the primary method of execution from the electric chair to lethal injection

The Alabama legislature passed a bill to change the primary method of execution from the electric chair to lethal injection. The measure needs to be signed by Gov. Don Siegelman. The legislation calls for lethal injection to be used in any executions following July 1, unless the inmate asks to die in the electric chair. The lethal injection bill passed the state Senate earlier in the session and was approved by the House on a 86-0 vote.
