The California Supreme Court overturned the death sentence of Mauricio Silva, 43

The California Supreme Court overturned the death sentence of Mauricio Silva, 43. The high court left intact a jury's finding that the Hispanic man was guilty of the offences. But the court unanimously found that the exclusion of at least 1 Hispanic from the prospective jury pool tainted the jury's death verdict. Prosecutors were mulling over whether they would seek a new hearing to try for a death sentence or whether they would settle for life imprisonment without parole. Without a new penalty phase hearing, Mauricio Silva, 43, will be sentenced to life without parole. In 1984, in Los Angeles, he killed hia half-sister Martha Kitzler, Walter Sanders and Monique Hilton.
