The central Ha Tinh Province's Court of Appeal upheld the death sentences passed by a lower court on seven people found guilty of drug trafficking and circulating counterfeit dollars.
The lower court's verdict on other defendants, including nine life imprisonment sentences, was also upheld. The four-day trial was held to consider appeals from 16 defendants of a 23-strong ring charged with trafficking across the border 92 packages of heroin and 2 kg of opium, and passing counterfeit American banknotes worth 92,200 US dollars from 1997 to November 1999.
