The death penalty should be restored in Russia and executions should be public, LDPR leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky declared at a round-table meeting titled 'The Abolishment of the Death Penalty Moratorium'.
"If we shoot 5,000-6,000 people, the number of crimes would decrease. We have to kill criminals, so that the other people look at them and don't do the same," the Deputy Speaker of the State Duma said. In Zhirinovsky's opinion, Russia should not have entered the Council of Europe.
"It is nether an economic nor political organization. We are only losing money," he said. Zhirinovsky emphasized that Russia spent $25m on its prisoners annually. This money could have been spent on homeless children, he added.
