The district court sentenced to death Amjad Hossain, 30, and Jilan Sheikh, 32, for murdering a schoolboy of 12 in 1998. Handing down the death penalty the judge observed that they drowned the schoolboy and that showing mercy to the offenders may give rise to further child killings. Amjad Hossain, house tutor of the boy, committed the murder after the boy's father dismissed him of his position.
