The EP adopted a resolution on the case of Amina Lawal, sentenced to death by stoning in Nigeria for committing adultery, pushing the Nigerian government to suspend all executions and to put an end to the use of the death penalty. The resolution invited the Supreme Islamic Court of Appeal in Katsina, where Amina's appeal hearing was scheduled, to confirm its commitment to respect all the international agreements Nigeria belongs to in the field of human rights, and demanded the immediate abrogation of all elements of Islamic law which ran counter to international law.
