The father of death-row convict Dhananjoy Chatterjee criticised President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam's decision to reject his son's clemency plea, saying the move was "unfair and unjust". "I can't believe this. How could the president reject my son's plea even after he has spent 14 years in jail?" Banshidhar Chatterjee, the convict's aging father, told the Bengali TV news channel Akash Bangla. Dhananjoy was held guilty of raping and killing 14-year-old schoolgirl Hetal Parekh March 5, 1990 in a Kolkata building where she lived and he was a security guard.
