The former vice head of the northern China's Hebei provincial foreign trade bureau was sentenced to death after being convicted of transferring the import rights of 1,249 automobiles to the Beijing Senhua Automotive Trading Corp between 2001 and 2003. Li Youshan, who was in charge of automotive imports and exports in Hebei, apparently sold the import rights for each car for some 4,600 dollars a piece, raking in 5.7 million dollars (47 million yuan). He was also found guilty of accepting a car and cash worth 24,000 yuan from another Hebei automobile sales company. Following the sentencing, the court ordered that 28 million yuan in cash and property in Li's possession be handed over to the state.
