The Guardian newspaper reported that independent human rights groups estimated that there are over 600 politically motivated arrests a year are made in Uzbekistan, and 6,500 political prisoners, some tortured to death. According to a forensic report commissioned by the British embassy, in August 2002 two prisoners were boiled to death, the paper said.
