The Indonesian government is preparing a draft law on terrorism to provide a legal basis for its anti-terrorism program, according to Abdul Gani Abdullah, director general for legislation at the Justice and Human Rights Ministry.
Abdullah said the bill would among other things define terrorism, terrorist crimes and provide for the formation of an anti-terrorism task force.
Abdullah disclosed that what is meant by terrorism in the draft bill is an action which relies on the use of violence or threat of violence with a background of political objectives, thus detrimental to the life and security of other people.
The terrorist crime could be subject to the death penalty, life imprisonment or a jail term of 20 years.
