The Kenyan police force was asked to name the officers who allegedly executed three suspects in Mombasa. In a letter to the Coast Provincial police officer, the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights also asked for the release of the names of the suspected gangsters who died in the April 1 incident that occurred in Makadara. The Government watchdog said that it can only conduct investigations into the incident if the names of the officers and the victims were released. The organisation also wanted the police to explain why the suspects were shot and release the results of postmortem examinations conducted on the victims. The letter said that the officers in plain clothes were seen conversing with the suspects prior to the killings and there was no sign of a struggle. Witnesses saw the three officers conversing with the suspects before they executed them, the letter said, adding: "Shortly before the killings, three officers joined their colleagues and started shooting."
