The lawyer of a Ukrainian citizen sentenced to death in the United Arab Emirates on February 9 for murder is preparing an appeal. Andrei Svirid's case is under the constant control of the Ukrainian embassy in the UAE and the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Ministry spokesman Sergei Borodenkov told Interfax.
The Ukranian and a Russian citizen were sentenced to death for killing a local jeweller. Their accomplices - citizens of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan - were sentenced to three years in jail and subsequent deportation for covering up evidence.
